Vanderlande Industries UK Ltd receives Fourth Gold RoSPA Safety Award

For the fourth year in succession Vanderlande Industries UK Ltd have been awarded the prestigious RoSPA Gold Achievement Award for Occupational Health & Safety.

The award was presented at a ceremony at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham in May alongside the Safety & Health Expo, Europe’s leading annual health & safety exhibition. The gold award is presented to organisations that can provide evidence of excellent health & safety management systems and high levels of safety compliance.

David Rawlins RoSPA’s Awards Manager said “Vanderlande Industries UK Ltd has shown a commitment to protecting the health and well being of its employees and others. Organisations which do this deserve to have such dedication recognised and that is where the RoSPA Awards come in. As well as there being clear ethical reasons and legal requirements for good health & safety management there is also a strong business case. RoSPA is delighted to publicly honour organisations which have demonstrated their work to improve performance in this sphere”.

Vanderlande Industries UK have also recently been accredited to the “Safe Contractor” scheme in recognition of reaching the nationally recognised Safe Contractor Charter Standards. Vanderlande’s Safety Management System was audited by an external body to ensure safety standards were met for design, installation, subcontracted activities, commissioning and maintenance activities. Gaining accreditation to this scheme assists our clients in assuring safety in their supply chain. Several blue chip organisations utilise this scheme to make purchasing decisions such as Next and Tesco.

Vanderlande Industries UK Ltd’s Managing Director, David Hyslop and General Manager Nick Porter are delighted that we have received the RoSPA Award and “Safe Contractor” status and have thanked everybody for their continuing hard work in this area.

David Hyslop said “everybody is committed to playing their part in achieving excellent standards of health & safety and in driving continuous improvements. Receiving these accolades is a great acknowledgement of this commitment and I am proud of our continuing success in this area”.

Nick Porter said “We have worked hard this year to drive a positive safety culture throughout the organisation and external recognition of this demonstrates the individual efforts that have been made to meet the safety goals identified in our safety policy & our core values for ensuring a safe base prior to undertaking any work”.

Vanderlande Industries’ key improvement activities in 2009 have included pre-start safety programmes for project managers, site supervisors and subcontractors, safety improvement plans for service and maintenance, increased workforce engagement and senior management safety tours, improved management of safety for non English speaking workers and an increased focus on design safety. Objectives for further improvements have been identified for 2010.
