Ergonomic workstations: Critical Succes Factor in Warehouse Automation

In 2007 Vanderlande already realised that workstation design was becoming a critical success factor in warehouse automation. From that time on, Vanderlande has cooperated closely with TNO, Europe’s largest Institute for technological and strategic research and consultancy with expertise in ergonomics.

This resulted in the successful launch of the PICK@EASE high-performance ergonomic order picking workstation. TNO researched the actual product on its ergonomic and performance merits during a series of real-life operator tests held at our Innovation Centre in Veghel, the Netherlands. With the “Excense Suit”, sustainable performance in a given situation can be analyzed immediately. With the Virtual Reality “Ergomix”, it can be tested how certain types of workstations impact sustainable performance.

Based on the same principles, Vanderlande and TNO extended the @EASE workstation family into the Packing area and developed the high-performance ergonomic packing workstation PACK@EASE. Our RECEIVE@EASE workstations facilitate efficient and ergonomic receiving of items, while CLEAR@EASE workstations provide the same ergonomics benefits for housekeeping and problems solving functions in an automated material handling system.
